Hunting with hounds is no different from Badger Baiting or Cock Fighting. - MYTH
They were banned, so why wasn't Hunting with Hounds?
The difference between Hunting with Hounds and Badger Baiting and Cock Fighting is that the latter two activities are designed purely so that the spectators can see and experience as much of the animal suffering as possible.
The "action" takes place in a small pit or ring, with the "audience" seated or standing within feet of the animals. The entire event is designed around ensuring that they see and hear everything.
Hunting with hounds is carried out in a way that it achieves exactly the opposite effect. This is why "Sadism" is not why people go hunting, and why Hunting was not banned when the other two rightly were.
If you want further clarification on the differences, just look at the sort of Dogs used in Badger Baiting, compared to those used in Fox Hunting
In Badger Baiting,
the dogs are specially chosen to be as close to an even match to the badger as possible. This is to ensure that the fight lasts for a long time, granting the maximum customer "satisfaction", and to ensure the maximum possible return on betting revenue.
This matching means that the fight will be extremely violent, bloody and painful for both participants, and that it will be unnecessarily and greatly prolonged.
In Fox Hunting
the dogs used are three to four times the mass of the fox, and any one of them can kill a fox on its own quickly and cleanly. The Hunt, however, use thirty or forty at a time. Until the first hound touches the fox, it is entirely unharmed.
Once the first hound has caught the fox, however, the others immediately join in, and that is it. To the onlooker it may look as if the fox has been dropped into a canine magimix, it may indeed be gruesome to watch, but it is undeniably quick.
There is no fight, no "fox tug-of-war" and no prolonged suffering. Once caught, the fox stands absolutely no chance against the hounds, and death comes in seconds.
Now ask yourself this question :
"If hunters wanted to enjoy the suffering of the fox why would they go about it in such a stupid way?"
The obvious answer is " They would not ".
And yet we do.
Why?
Because the enjoyment of animal suffering is not why we go hunting.
And that is why Hunting was not banned along with Badger Baiting and Cock Fighting.
This leads to the next obvious question :
