We welcome children and young people to our hunt – they are our future. We have special reduced rates for children (16 and under on 1 November) and associates (17-25 years old on 1 November).
Each school holiday in the season there is a Pony Club/Childrens’ Priority meet, when the day is specifically aimed at children coming out to have fun and learn about hunting, and where all our other followers take a hand in helping with this. These meets can be a very good starting point, but as with adult newcomers, children are welcome at normal meets subject to the provisos below.
It is very helpful to the hunt secretaries if cap money or field money is prepared in advance and handed over in an envelope with the child’s name on the front.
Parents and guardians please note: children of 14 and under MUST be accompanied by a mounted adult escort, arranged in advance (the only exception is at Pony Club/Children’s priority meets when all adults hunting participate in looking after the children). We recommend inexperienced children over 14 are also escorted for their first few hunts until they feel fully confident and have got to know some of their contemporaries and adult followers. If you don’t hunt yourself, or have a friend or family member who can act as escort, please get in touch with the secretaries as sometimes we have experienced followers who will escort children if arrangements are made in advance. This is very important, whilst our aim is for our sport to be safe and enjoyable, horse riding and hunting are risk sports and involve travelling quite long distances across country that may not be familiar.
Please ensure there is bit of paper in the child’s pocket with the name of a parent or guardian and a mobile phone number in case we need to contact you during the day. We do encourage non-riding parents and guardians to follow the hunt on foot/bicycle or in a car.
All children hunting are encouraged to join the Pony Club and take their hunting certificate test.
We don’t only go hunting, we also have our point to point, our show and garden open day and other events, and even our own for sale and wanted page. For more details, click on the links to the Facebook pages below, or contact the Hunt Secretaries via the contact details on the Contacts page
